A VOTE FOR OBAMA IS A VOTE FOR FOR FOR PROP 8!!!!!
Yea, the link looks weird but if you click in between those lines, you will be taken to a magazine article that explains the distinct advantage (and it makes sense) that Obama voters are bringing to the "yes"-for-Prop-8 people. It seems that minorities LOVE LOVE LOVE Obama (Blacks, Latinos, wayward Mormons *cough*) and those demographics are gearing up to come out to the polls to vote. The drive to register and activate "latent" Democrats has reached frenzied status. Typically, these voters are strongly in favor of traditional marriage and this could really and truly help Proposition 8 over the top. In fact, if you read the article, those who would like to see Prop 8 fail have a real problem on their hands...so, when it comes to Mr. Obama, love him or hate him, we in California may all owe him a debt of profound gratitude come the election...am I in heaven or what???

Wow. . I am so excited after reading this! It comes down to this. . .I really believe that whoever wins the election that the country will be better off. PLUS, GO PROP 8!!! A special thank you to Mr. Obama. . .without you this may not be possible.
So, here's the catch that keeps rattling around in my brain:
The gay marriage issue (prop 22) was labeled unconstitutional by not activist judges, but conservative (Republican) judges. So, we placed prop 8 on the ballot to change the constitution. But just passing prop 8 doesn't end the debate. Instead, it pushed the appeals process until the issue ends up at the US Supreme court. By that point, with a liberal congress, Senate and President, we will almost certainly have 1 or 2 liberal judges who deem gay marriage a right and not a privilege, pushing all 50 states into the recognition of gay marriage as a right under the US constitution.
By forcing this vote, we very well might be forcing the nation down a path we never expected.
Just a thought. . .
I understand that frustration...
The vote is here regardless. We have to pass Prop 8 regardless. So yea, I see your point; put a Republican in the White House to ensure, as much as possible, that conservative judges will be in place should the scenario you describe actually occur...I see...I thought the whole ugly mess in CA was brought up again after Prop 22 because of 4 non-republican judges in San Francisco? I think most nationally elected officials want this to remain a state-selected process and keep a hands-off policy about it, if only to avoid the controversy it stirs up. However, WE (the LDS) know that eventually it will, indeed, get way worse before it gets better, so we're rather doomed anyway...*sigh*...we just have to keep fighting our battles as they lay before us don't you think? I really don't know what else to do. There are all sorts of scenarios that could play out, most of them are dreadful...but some are great!
Yeah, I agree. Battle by battle. . .
I choose to find joy in this life no matter what is placed before me.
But as far as I can tell, the judges who are being accused of furthering their own agenda in interpreting the law were actually Conservative Republicans appointed by various Republican Governors.
I could and probably should do more research into all of the other rhetoric of the bill, seeing as each side has a story to tell and an agenda to promote. But in reality, the whole thing pretty much wears me out.
So tell me why I felt the need to post to your blog?!?! My nature is apparently to stir up trouble. :)
