DEAD SKUNK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD...AND I DIDN'T MIND IT SO MUCH...

So I'm driving home from Em's house...I'm comin' 'round the mountain and I smell it...you know that smell...kinda sorta like burnt....I don't know....burnt something....and I thought, hmmmmm, they're out already?....and just around the corner, there he is....Pepe' le' Pew...in a heap...with that unmistakable white streak down what used to be his back....fresh....fur still blowin' in the breeze....kinda sad really....so I swerved my car a little because you know, if you get that stuff on your grill or tires, your neighbors just aren't amused....but here's the thing....I'm just not that grossed out by the smell of skunk. There. I said it. Skunk does not gross me out. I've raised teenage boys. I've smelled worse.

I think I'm a member of some kind of unrecognized club. A small one, but we exist. The "what's the fuss about skunk? club". I don't get it. Back in the day, I used to fake like it was disgusting because everyone else was gagging and I thought, "Well, it must be bad and this is just more evidence of how weird my wiring is" so I would pretend to be grossed out, but it was really just a pretense. Now....I just process it and think, "oh yea, skunk".

I knew a guy back in the 90s....an old stoner...who actually had grown to LOVE the smell of skunk because it reminded him of great weed he had smoked ONE TIME in his life. So...when he smelled skunk, he was reliving stoner heaven. He would smile if Pepe' jumped on his grill at 60 mph. He'd think, "Sa-weet! Roll one now while the smell is fresh. A boy can dream."....stoners....

And come on...how many people out there still know part of the lyrics to Louden Wainwright's song about that dead skunk in the middle of the road?....at least you can hum part of it....fess up....you know you can.....

All right....I'm going to kick back now and rest....I've done six hours of Church (3 at Ems, 3 with my own) and 2 hours with a fireside at the Bishops....it's been a good day...even with a stoner reference....even with poor Pepe'....rest in stink....

I cannot believe you are still up. We were up so late last night! What time was it? 2? I took a two and a half hour nap today (yay for 8:30 church!) and I am still tired.
I don't mind skunk that much, either. I don't like it. .. but, there's worse.

" Dead skunk...in the middle of road.....
Dead skunk...in the middle of the road....
Dead skunk...in the middle of the road...
stinkin' to HIGH HEAVEN."

that's the chorus,
and I remember something about a dead cat, a dead dog and a dead toad frog.

uplifting song....I'm getting misty-eyed just thinkin' about it.

I think there may be plenty of us....we're just not organized yet...but we're on the horizon...oh yes we are...and when we roar...well...

Wait, you like Louden too?! I saw him a few months ago in Cerritos and he was lovley and funny and witty and sad and wonderful.

And skunk smell is gross. One let loose right outside my window one night and I wanted to DIE because it was everywhere. I couldn't get away from the stink. But I have a very sensitive nose. I sometimes have to leave Relief Society because of all the perfume.

I indeed like Louden...I LOVE his "That's my daughter" song...unless that's his son singing it....they are two of them now, right?...I can't keep track.....and I know what you're saying about R.S....sometimes there's a blue cloud that hovers over the heads of the ladies in the first three rows....

You know what? I have NEVER minded the busch brewery...in fact, I have always thought it smelled like green beans cooking...I kid you not...that is the image that pops up in my head when I drive past it...and just as an aside...when they were building that factory and just the scaffolding was up, it was so pretty with the twinkling lights showing through the garters and everything-it was the perfect place to park and make-out in the early 70s...not that I had personal experience...I'm just telling you that that's what I heard....
