AND SO, THE FINAL HOUR APPROACHES FOR PROP 8-LET THE HEALING BEGIN

It is November 3rd...tomorrow is the big day...We have one final push tonight to put out the signs for Prop 8 that the opposition continues to take down...'scool...we just keep putting them out there...and then there's that magnificent blessing that was called down...so we'll see....

But here's the bottom line...

I didn't stand up for Prop 8 because of hate.

I didn't stand up for Prop 8 because of homosexuality.

I didn't stand up for Prop 8 because of lack of tolerance or bigotry.

I didn't stand up for Prop 8 because I want to see same sex couples in love lose their domestic rights-which they won't! That is not a threat or a possibility.

Are we clear?

I stood up for Prop 8 because I believe it was, and is, the right thing to do.

I stood up for Prop 8 because I believe that if it fails, down the road there will be less and less tolerance for MY beliefs-and those who are claiming bigotry now will have the ability (and the legal ammunition-despite the naysayers) to come after me, my bishop, rabbis, preachers, ministers and other people of faith who choose to worship according to the dictates of their own conscious. Not right away, but soon enough.

But the battle has been a good one. It has been an honor to stand alongside some of the best men and women I know. Every opportunity I have had to state my case, to publicly demonstrate and to utilize my freedom of speech, I have done so without rancor, without violence, without demeaning myself or my cause. I have endured name-calling, obscene gestures, intolerance and bigotry.

Whatever happens now, we just have to move forward and heal hearts. I will say, for me and my family, it was a sincere pleasure to stand with the Saints.

Thanks Nancy. I appreciate that. I can't believe how misunderstood and misjudged I've been...it's been very difficult. I'm very grateful for this blog and the opportunity to express the truth...and for friends who understand me...thanks again.

Prop 8 has NOTHING to do with freedom of religion. That is a scare tactic used by the religious right. You are not a bigot, you just misunderstand this law. It is fair and equal for all people to be able to marry.

Well, thanks for at least not calling me a bigot. I really appreciate that. Truly.

And you know, if Prop 8 would fail, and lots and lots of time passes, please look me up and give me a great big I TOLD YOU SO....please.....

And I'm sorry you feel you have to post as "anonymous"...this is a pretty tolerant blog...

I believe that marriage is ordained of God and between a man and a woman. That's my right to feel that. And, it's my right to vote on that. But, here's the kicker. . . If Prop 8 wins, people will hate me. But, if prop 8 loses, I will still love them. I wonder who is more tolerant?

Well said my friend...here's a virtual hug...the intolerance and bigotry I have witnessed has been directed against those who have been accused of it. It's been very toxic out there. Stay close to the peacemakers, of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.

I really side with you on this, Mom. It's an encroachment on Religion by the State in my opinion. I have heard many people who are for gay marriage tell me that I am pushing my religion upon them by not voting for gay marriage (2006). They accused me of bigotry. The way I see that remark made to me is that supporters of gay marriage want me to disregard my right to vote according to my own conscience and choice. By merely exercising my right to vote the way I choose I am being called a bigot and closed-minded. I am being called unfair and hateful. I don't hate anybody. I don't hate homosexuals and never have. I wasn't taught hatred as a child, but tolerance for all people. Yes, I have my faith and my beliefs and I'm allowed to have that by the Constitution of this country. That's what this country was truly founded on; Freedom of religion and Freedom from tyranny.

My religion has never forced its doctrines on anybody. We have never sought to deny anyone their constitutional rights. Now the state proposes to take away some of the rights of my religion disguised in the name of equality and fairness? Who's pushing their views upon who now?

...sorry, that was long. :)

I know honey. Prop 8 passed this time. But we know the time will come when it will not. The time will come when courts will decide against what we fill is fair. And when that happens, tolerance for OUR choices will not exist. We will be ostracized and we will be on the receiving end of bigotry and hatred and intolerance. And no one will come to our defense. Thankfully, it didn't happen on November 4th, 2008....
